Like many women, I love older men (Lee Van Cleef, Christopher Walken, Udo Kier....). But I do NOT love old leers.
That’s not prejudice.
This isn’t about “oh it has sex”. This is about “oh it has sex aimed at a very specific audience”.
Let me ask you a question. First, look at these images:
Ooooh snap, someone got angry! Here’s a little game, look up Kotaku’s articles on The Witcher, and tell me what you find.
The fact all the Witcher articles I find on the internet talk about the sex scenes isn’t helping. What else should I assume from a game that started off as a collect-all-the-women and evolved into a let’s-show-the-sex-scenes?
Mhmh.
I can play as a male character and still don’t feel excluded. Uncharted for example. But The Witcher? That is a bros-only game.
I don’t consider a “good story” any story in which the hero can bang any woman he meets, and somehow all women he meets are porn actresses.
Kinda missing the point. Offering choice has an enormous impact on game design. That is something that happens consciously, and takes tremendous effort. It’s a lot easier to make a game with a fixed protagonist. However, it’s not simply about the main character. When you craft a game for different audiences, there are…
I’m a female too. Now don’t get me wrong, I think Bioware too is far more focused on the straight male audience than on anything else, to the point it gets awkward when they try to portray things aimed at ladies or gays.
it seems you already made your mind about DAI and Witcher 3 before they even came out. Witcher 3 has a better gameplay and it is a worthy GOTY, but the writing in Witcher series is nothing compared to Bioware. Geralt hasn’t changed at all since day 1, Triss hasn’t changed at all since day 1, the only difference is,…
Perhaps that’s the male perspective, but as a lady gamer the Bioware games have felt like games made with women gamers in mind, while the Witcher series feels like a game by men for men. As a result, Bioware has gotten way, way more of my money.
