I get the feeling most of the editors at Gawker are very child-like and naive . Somehow they don’t really grasp that posting things on the internet can have real world repercussions.

“Tomorrow Thiel could wake up, decide he hates Brits, and destroy The Guardian.”
... . . . so don’t create any means for them to litigate you with. Not so hard, really!
I blame guns.
People’s personal lives are not news.
It is fascinating to watch though. Like watching a bully bitch about the new goodie two shoes golden glove transplant that told him if he saw him bullying another kid he was going to use he head as a punching bag. “That guys such I dick. Where the fuck’s Pomona anyways? I bet it sucks!”
If anything, they’re just giving Thiel more ammo. Keep it up, Gawker.
Thiel committed no crime, no matter how questionable his line of behavior was.
People barely cared about this even when it was actually (briefly) part of the news cycle.
Listen up:
Sorry Gawker, you guys aren’t journalists being wronged. You’re a bunch of unethical muckrakers and you managed to piss off the wrong person...
Wow, this might be the first time I have agreed with Zuck!
I am getting sick of the pile on to oust people from positions for disagreeing with them on some crap. Gawker acted as unquestionable dickheads to Thiel, He had every legal right to retaliate the way he did. And Gawker is a way more powerful voice than some…
That may be the dumbest possible comparison you could have made.
If you can’t parse out the false equivalence between raping a child and suing Gawker then I don’t know what to tell you.
Legally suing a publication and committing a heinous crime are not even comparable. I’m pretty confident raping a child would get you kicked off of the school board/beaten and raped in prison.
He really was an amazingly talented up and coming actor. After seeing him in Green Room, it felt like he was destined for some great things. Real shame.
And we’re measurably safer with them. Can the same be said about the TSA?
True, but that’s not at all the same thing. There is verifiable proof that seatbelts save lives. The TSA, by regularly failing audits/tests, proves that the system doesn’t work in its current form. Either the TSA is useless, or terrorism by plane just isn’t common. Either way, it seems the current security situation…
Those are terrible analogies. We know that there is a big causative relationship between implementing those things and the reduction of fatalities and serious injuries, and even knew there would be ahead of time. The creation of the TSA was essentially in response to one incident, so it would take a big leap of faith…
