Imagine if Microsoft said right now that they only way to add software to Windows Xbox was to go through their app store and they wanted 30% of whatever you charged for the software. Their is no way anyone would stand for that.

Been following this whole debacle and what I don’t understand about Epic is why they don’t make their own series of phones along with proprietary software to run it.  Apple has dumped billions into their tech so why should Epic (or any other company that is only developing software to run ON somebody else’s platform)

The argument here basically gets down to: “We love the very strong relationship Apple has built with its loyal customers, and when we profit by that we want to keep every penny for ourselves. While it’s true that we pay the exact same 30% tax to console makers, we’ve decided to be selectively upset about that; when

At times like this, all I can remember is when the cunts at Epic stole other peoples’ popular dances and used them in their game without compensating or even asking permission of the original creators. I even saw one of those dances used in a web ad for Fortnight only days ago.

You can say Epic sucks without being Pro-Apple. That Epic chose a target people dislike doesn’t change the fact that they’re doing some scumbag things. I have a lot of issues with Epic and they have a history of some scumbag maneuvers. Hell, the way they’ve handled their game store alone could lead to a 5 page rant.

So Epic wants to use Apple to expand their reach, but doesn’t want to actually compensate Apple for it.

Ugh. I just went from “not really caring because Fortnite is dumb, but thinking it’d be interesting if Epic won against Apple” to “hoping Epic suffocates from having its head so far up its own ass.

On one hand this is a finish product and those two assholes did well with GoT until they ran out of source material.

I don’t see how anyone could see this as Apple being in the wrong?

Exactly. Just because competitors eventually fail doesn’t mean they didn’t provide competition. Many people seem to confuse success with monopoly. Unless that success is maintained by actively suppressing competition (e.g. paying for timed exclusives or buying developers and pulling their games from competing

Though it should be noted that Android allows you to avoid using their app store entirely and can be emulated for free on just about any electronic, and that both iOS and Android aren’t limited to cell phones.

Nah, I don’t think he harbors any such delusions. He knows exactly what he’s doing, he just wants to spin it to make Epic look like the altruistic underdog. He did (and continues to do) the exact same thing with EGS. The problem is that a lot of people take his claims at face value with little to no critical thought.

Actually they werent the only players in the game but a certain Chinese company got kicked out of the country, and the others failed due to there not be space in the market for more than two unless someone comes along that is truly innovative and trying to hijack someone else’s platform is not innovative. Especially

I have a visceral hatred of both parties involved, but to be honest, Epic is clearly in the wrong here. They broke the terms of the service agreement, full stop. This is such a blatant strong-arm attempt and is decidedly illegal and really shouldn’t even go to court, no matter how much money is on the line (and I’m

... and Sony and Microsoft and Nintendo. Good luck getting your hands on Sony or Nintendo development kits. That’s even inherently gatekept.

Is everyone that writes for this site shorting Apple stock?

An analogy to help people understand this situation:

Guess the problem of exclusivity only matters when you can’t make your own store.
