You are absolutely correct. Why take a chance on an original idea when Sony's directive to Tommy Rothman is to make money, not great films?

The film looks like shit, regardless of fan boy bashing. There’s no investment, no care for the quality of the film here, just Sony pulling out whatever IP they know is popular to create a franchise to compete with franchises of other studios. That’s it.
