Private schools also have more disciplinary tools for dealing with problem faculty members, too. They’re much easier to fire. You may be correct. A lot depends on career field and I should amend my statement to ”it is common in my career field”. That being said, it isn’t uncommon to show the person who hired you a little respect. Even very bad people are capable of doing good things and often do. Do you like the American interstate highway

It is common to refer to someone who is higher in your work organization who is in a higher position on the org chart with whom you do not have a personal relationship Mr or Mrs depending on their sex. Of course in this iteration of our culture their preferred pronouns may matter too.
