I saw this yesterday (it was 102 in my town...I'd watch paint dry to escape the heat) and all I have to say is that it was bad but it was fun.

You're right, most bike repairs don't require many tools.
However, if you have a good bike and ride it hard, having the right tools (or local mechanic) is essential.
