People love to rip on Ford for the GT application process, but they did it to avoid this exact thing. They may have gone a little overboard, but it’s the right thing to do.
I used to own a Gen II turbo MR2, and I can tell you that it did actually live up to your dreams back in the 90's. Especially with some coilovers, sway bars, and a tune, it was quick, light, nimble, and had looks to kill. IMO it was better than the 300ZX and Mustangs of its era.
