The “story assists” only show certain moves off, and act as shortcuts. They’re not really practical for other game modes because they only exist in the story mode.

I don’t blame you. That’s why you stick to one character (preferably a beginner one like Katarina in T7), where certain combos are easy to pull off & just figure out when to time your executions.

They just need to do what Dead or Alive 5 does with their practicing mode tutorial:
