I think its tied to the rampant anti-intellectualism accompanying our departing(!) presidential administration. There is a fairly significant proportion of the population that feel that wealth is the only meaningful figure of merit and any other comparison that degrades that conclusion is met with anger and insult.

I know- impossible to watch without tearing up.

“I’d rather have them all back here and no hits at all.”

I’m baffled their career arc isn’t common knowledge, especially now that the early records are readily available. Odessa used to be a pretty rare used record store find not that many years ago.

Let me be the first to say they are fantastic. They transcend disco. And it’s an absolute shame Barry has been left alone for so long on his road.

I’m with you. I really like McMansion Hell’s more scholarly and historical posts (as opposed to her deeply hysterical mansion-tour posts) for this kind of info, if you want a similar education with much less snide.

I’m not sure what the snark about islands is... it’s more counterspace and more storage, two things every kitchen needs more of.  If your kitchen is so palatial and grand that you’re putting beverage freezers and trash compactors in it, the island existing isn’t the real sign of excess.

I am finding this “house tour” series to be both extremely fascinating, and a little bit off-putting in it’s tone. Maybe I’m reading too far into it, but this and yesterday’s “entryway” piece give off this vibe of like. . .wanting these things in your home makes you a slave to capitalism and a silly person who falls

As a Midwesterner who moved to NYC, moved to the flyover states to raise a kid, and will be moving back the nanosecond it’s feasible for us, good riddance to these eulogizing narcissists. NYC will never die. The arts and nightlife will resurge. Even if it doesn’t, it’s still the most amazing, energetic city in the US.

Thanks for reporting on this, it is very important.

I don’t think NYC is over but I do think people who have left the city have always felt the need to eulogize it. People have always left and new ones arrive and you’ll always get a couple pages about how NYC is never going to be the same. So I think during this pandemic we’re just experiencing the effects of hundreds

I’ve lived in the Hudson Valley for most of my life, and all of the last 20 years. Maybe I should start a referral service.

If ten years ago you’d told me, “Hey, you know that guy from “Hot Rod” and Lonely Island? Turns out he’s a really good actor and in one of the best movies of 2020,” I’d have replied,” Pfft, yeah, sure, buddy. What are you gonna tell me next, that he’s married to Joanna Newsom or something?”

For sure genetics help a whole lot. I dont use any skincare on a regular basis, only once in a blue moon when my skin feels tight. I’ve never smoked and don’t drink, only wear eye make-up (eyeliner and mascara), never worn foundation. I don’t have the best diet. Yet I’m 42 and most people think I’m under 30. As my

Bondi is so shit. It’s seriously the most overrated beach in the fucking country and all these absolute poser cunts from Sydney spent all their time instagramming pictures from there about how special it is in their ugly activewear. Fuck off losers.

There’s characters in the yearly Wipe things. Philomena Cunk and Barry Shitpeas.

Brooker’s Screen Wipe was awesome. I look forward to this.

Ha! Yup. Although I am also a city person that moved to the country. But I’m just another poor that can’t hire someone to stack wood and mow the lawn. Also I don’t mind getting dirty or spending time outside no matter the weather, which you basically have to do up here to mentally survive.

There are so many factors involved, and also your personal situation. We are empty nesters who no longer needed or wanted a big house in a car dependent suburb. Our last house took almost two years to sell because of the market at the time. We never want to be in that position again. Of course homes in the
