what aimeepond said. If he had attacked him before the jury had even made a guilty verdict, it might have been cause for a re-trial. But odds are the judge would have told them to forget it ever happened and remind them that emotional outbursts aren’t how you come up with the verdict.

Appealing the verdict due to extenuating circumstances is different from appealing the sentence, and he did not appeal the guilty verdict. If this father attacked him after the verdict was read, he couldn’t appeal on grounds of bias because the verdict had already been made. He can, and will, appeal the death penalty

No mistrial. I am a lawyer. Conviction registered. Sentence handed down. There is no risk of prejudice to the defendant, so no mistrial.

Most death penalty cases are appealed automatically, I thought.

it’s over. he’s convicted.

I didn’t mean to be a jerk! I ain’t a Harvard grad, myself.

No I don’t think he can appeal because of the assault — not successfully anyway — he could sue the father for assault in civil court (just like any person who is put in fear of attack can do) but that would not be a challenge to his criminal conviction.

That is 100% douche-speak for “She didn’t want to sleep with me.”

The conviction is final and subject to appeal for any errors in the trial that lead to the jury’s verdict of conviction.

Oh no, I did post a picture, but not sure why it didn’t work the first time around...

It was a sentencing. He’s convicted. I don’t know why the caption says ‘accused.’ Not anymore, not in the court.

This is the closest. His after picture.

Eddie Munster.

I made a new post to see if we could get thoughts from lawyers on this. It’s an interesting point you make and I would hate to see this asshole weasel his way out of a conviction because of what the father did. Which I support fully and would probably do the same but I could see a defense lawyer trying to see how they

I’m so, so ready for Madame President.

He said he is a member of MENSA or MRSA, at this point it’s confusing.

The narratives that have built up about Clinton being a terrible campaigner and Trump being a political genius are going to change now that we’re (almost)into the general election. She’s going to destroy him, and I’m going to love watching it.

Brilliant. Clinton is so much better than she’s given credit for. She’s intelligent, thoughtful, and experienced. She’s made mistakes, but so have we all. Plus, she’s learned from them, which unfortunately cannot be said for Trump.

Clinton ‘16: At Least I’m Not Trump!

One of her best speeches of the campaign, IMO. I’m so, so ready for Madame President.
