I didn't take anything he said to indicate that he thinks there's actually something on the other side. I mean, maybe he thinks so, but it's not necessarily the case.

Yeah, the Lovecraftian overtones worked so well because of the psychological content: the feeling of alienation, the sense of malice as the underlying logic of the world, the insufficiency of human rationality to really come to grips with what's true and real.
Manifesting that in the form of an actual monster? Just

"… on my back"

I understand and sympathize with the complaint. I think some of the most unfair criticism the show's received suffers from the attitude you describe (as does some of its most unwarranted praise, to be fair).

The sexual abuse of children isn't the subject matter of the drama (the subject matter, it seems to me, is the detectives' pursuit of truth and the toll it takes on them); at most, it's an occasion for the drama to unfold.

If you think True Detective is 'exploring' the topic of child abuse in religious institutions, we must be watching very different shows.

I get why they lean on it — sexual predation of children violates pretty much every moral intuition we have, all at once — but precisely because it's such a raw and real evil, there's something off-putting about seeing it reduced to a trope.

So you're saying you thought it was pretty good, then.

I have to say: I'm getting a little worn down by how readily writers trot out the sexual abuse of children when they need to instantiate evil (or horror, or man's inhumanity to man).

1. That's a Maserati logo.
2. The sheriff they took on the boat? That was their former CID colleague who Marty slapped in one of the first couple episodes, who was apparently also a deputy to the sheriff they spoke to in '95 about the Fontenot girl.
3. That was … not the best scene.
4. Oh, man, that would've been lame.
5.

I'm with you. Grades are whatever anyway, and C is a little unkind, but this episode didn't feel as vital (a squishy word to reflect an unformed judgment) as the ones proceeding it.

Honestly? I'd rather watch Sack Lunch.

Then how come I have such a hard time finding one?!

You know, if you ignore the context (and misspelling), "bbc creamepie mild mature" sounds perfectly lovely.

And somehow the most disturbing one I've seen so far is just 'they'.

The people who are just searching for a specific performer seem so quaint. 'Riley Reid'? C'mon, live a little; try 'thai anal skinny'!

Sorry, they're only on the east coast leg of the tour. The Midwest is stuck with Natural Hairy Joins.

Just saw 'sabian', which I deeply hope is a sybian that somehow involves Nick Saban.

34 yo is the best one.

I'm guessing Fallon will end up occupying the same space Kimmel does for me: a show I never watch except in the form of youtube clips of the funny sketches/pre-taped bits that get linked by the AV Club or such like.
