I know with some of the newer Dyno systems, they can talk directly to the standalone ECU, making tuning a lot easier. (Haltech/Dyno Dynamics for example)

I feel like this design is very lazy, and I expected a lot more out of McLaren considering some of the wild stuff the other manufacturers have released.
