There may well be some regional variations, but I've been called a twat by people from across the UK and it's always been said to rhyme with cat. For something so deeply trivial, it's amazing how interested I am in this minor linguistic aberration.

Think it's a US/UK thing. It definitely rhymes with cat in Britain. Always sounded very strange to me when I'd hear the other pronunciation in US TV/movies.

Think there was something about it in the Jon Ronson book The Psychopath Test , though I forget exactly where the data came from.

I always saw him as Timothy Spall, but he's a bit old at this stage.
