That's a version of self defense that's entirely up to you. By all means, personally hold it, but I'd recommend you don't force others to abide by the same via force of government law (I realize you just explained you don't wish to, I'm saying in general).

This seems like a relatively disingenuous defense..."Hey, it's a sport so everything's ok guys!" Unless you'd like me to believe the main point of buying a gun is target/sport shooting, and if you believe that I've got a bridge in Brooklyn you might be interested in purchasing.

So for all the target shooter, why not ban guns in society BUT allow them to rent and use only in the perimeter of a target range facility? I'm sure you will find another bad excuse to tell me that it's not possible...
