This isn't worth replying to, but it's nuts. Ebert writes rich, varied sentences with an excellent vocabulary and a compelling voice.

Good critique. I love Ebert too, but I have been surprised by some of the simple mistakes that pop up in his reviews. Maybe filling page after page with notes has its downside as well.

Coming Late to This
But how do you immediately follow the complaint "Although End Times was recorded on a four-track, tape hiss and instrumental fudge-ups have been eradicated, along with any rawness or spontaneity," with the observation, "Obviously, Everett was working through some serious shit, but it feels like

"Just good enough to keep buying!"

He put on a good show at Pitchfork '08. King Khan was standing next to the stage, enjoying the noise.

Let me add to the chorus that they're good live. They put on a really fun show.

Soundtrack of Our Lives
Just reading this now—I can't believe Soundtrack of Our Lives' Communion isn't on here anywhere.

I'm in the "Gladiator was better the first time as Braveheart" camp.

Sounds like someone has never read Dawkins' work.

Agreed on Green and Maladroit, teadoust. I'm looking forward to listening to this one, even if Red was pretty weak (albeit with some tracks I still enjoyed).

"romanticizing in a grim way…?" What?

One of my favorite films of all time
Thanks for the review. Le Cercle Rogue is excellent too.

They receded into the background for a story arc or two, but they've definitely remained key players in Fables.

Crazy Rhythms is a Milestone
Probably my favorite record of all time. Seeing them play a free show at Pritzker Pavilion this summer was a dream come true.

Iggy.

Is is frustrating…I think you have to take it that Hearst's death would result in the town's complete destruction, as his representatives would come, kill a bunch of people and burn it to the ground. He has power behind him (and often right next to him, in the form of bodyguards) that he's just waiting for an excuse

I believe Bullock says he dug up his brother's body and brought it home in Season Two, so I I think the brother's really dead.

I still like Weezer too, even if the Red Album ended pretty weakly.

The spear scene was overwrought and ridiculous, and that's coming from someone who enjoyed The Ultimates (and even Identity Crisis). Throw in the tedious set-up that preceded it, and, well, I will be passing on Blackest Night.

It has a double fold-out, and it's big and beautiful. Think "Little Nemo in Slumberland"-sized Sunday comic pages.
