In my opinion, “hugging” (Jeez I hate talking about it this way) a Nazi is a best case scenario. In the long run, yeah, you probably change more hearts and minds through being open and non-violent. But when the other side is willing to resort to violence, shouldn’t one be able to defend oneself with more than hugs?

Dang, I loved this guy. Goodfellas is my favorite movie, and one can’t deny his brief time in the film is among its most memorable parts.

I wish I’d heard of her or the band before today. Seems like she was pretty talented and cool. RIP.

Oh wow, really? I’ll be living in Taiwan this Autumn—score!

Agreed! Now I won’t be able to watch it unless I can make friends with someone who actually pays for that service. Which seems unlikely, both that anyone would pay for that service and that I could make friends.

I’m super excited for this show, even though I know there’s a not insignificant chance it won’t live up to my hopes. Star Trek is my all time favorite series (or was, before Gravity Falls came along) and while I don’t understand why we keep getting prequels instead of something set later in the timeline, I’m not going

Works for me. I listened to ‘em last night—garage rock with a gothic tinge, kinda Cramps-y in a way. I dug it!

I am ALWAYS on the lookout for new goth music. This sounds pretty awesome, I’ll have to check them out.

My partner and I do this for every song we hear—we always sing a line or two inserting the word “fish” in there, or making it about swimming.

A good bowl of ramen (real stuff, not that nasty instant ramen). Either that, or my homemade mac and cheese. Neither is reminiscent of my childhood, but I was a moron as a child so my culinary tastes then are not comforting anymore. Nothing is better than some good ramen soup.

Alternately, Smiling Jack.

Actually, his real name is Manly Dan Corduroy.

I felt the exact same way on reading the book. I still really enjoyed it, but it doesn’t have what I loved about the movie. It works in a different way, that others have elaborated on well so I won’t retread the same territory.

I want to “boo” you and vociferously disagree that two of my favorite movies could actually only be good because they got their claws into me at a young age... but they DID get their claws into me at a young age, so I guess it’s not a very objective argument I’ve got.

I had no idea what the hell Kinja meant when everyone started talking about it. I was not prepared. I really miss the old way, but alas.

Interesting, I actually think that element is an improvement on the book. I like the combination of science and magic (or “supernatural bullshit”) a lot. I think the film handles that added element really well.

This article mentions two of my absolute favorite movies of all time, The Secret of NIMH and The Last Unicorn. I must have watched each of them dozens of times before I was six. When I finally introduced my partner to NIMH a few years back (he’d already seen The Last Unicorn), he turned to me and said “That was
