I’m not getting it. Honoring people for speaking out is bad because... That’s like saying the Olympics is bad because out of shape or ill people might feel sad.

I mean, is it really that controversial to suggest that Steven Spielberg has produced a middling prestige picture?

I’m so happy the leader of the Democratic Party in the Senate is such a progressive liberal. Really fills me with confidence about the future.

I read between the lines. Mainly that you’re the kind of person who would say “This isn’t the right place for that kind of confrontation!” To which I would ask, “Where is?” Are we supposed to wait for Hoffman et. al. to host a panel on sexual harassment before it gets brought up?

Nope. Oliver brought up harassment allegations against Hoffman while they were discussing a movie centered around harassment allegations. It’s literally the perfect time to ask Hoffman about them.

There’s a difference between condoning a past practice that was considered acceptable due to ignorance (like smoking around kids) and condoning a past practice that was only ever considered “acceptable” by the oppressors (like slavery and marital rape).

What? Redditors are twisting words & splitting hairs to help boost their own worldview? That’s crazy talk!

Speaking of Fred Armisen, I was really expecting there to be new accusations about him coming out.

This is what being an ally looks like! Thank you, John Oliver, for using your privilege to hold Hoffman accountable. For any men wondering ‘what do I do’, this is it. You speak up and don’t let abusers get away with idiotic responses.

Yikes. I...might have to rethink whether I need Netflix in my life. I knew they hadn’t done anything about him, but I didn’t realize how committed they were to protecting him. And...why? He can’t be that important...

Thanks for clearing that up, Billy. All this time I doubted the clearly recorded evidence of Trump admitting sexual assault.

If Billy Bush were a peer or friend of Trump’s and was egging him on like that, I’d agree he was a complicit asshole. But he was subordinate to both Trump and his NBC bosses (for whom Trump had the #1 show on TV), so Bush really wasn’t empowered do the right thing without fearing for his job.

He is just so, so, so fucking stupid. There really aren’t any other words for it. He is just colossally, monumentally stupid.

We just need to engage the Nazis in thoughtful and civil discourse. Because that works.

So much for liberals being tolerant of other people’s views and beliefs!

Cuz that’s been working so well? If we learned anything from 2016 it should be there are people out there who logic doesn’t fucking work on.

Yes, if only Hillary were in office, she would have prevented the misconduct of Matt Lauer, Garrison Keillor, Harvey Weinstein, Glenn Thrush, Josh Besh, Roger Ailes, Roy Price, Leon Wieseltier, Knight Landesman, Mark Halperin, Kevin Spacey, Michael Oreskes, Louis C.K., Steve Jurvetson, Bill O’Reilly and Charlie Rose.

Even worse are the folks who keep going on about how all of these allegations are a part of a right wing conspiracy to bring Franken down. They have no self-awareness about the fact that they sound exactly like the Roy Moore loyalists in Alabama who think Moore is being smeared b the liberal media or by Mitch

Side note:

Two female MPR hosts, the one who interviewed Franken (Cathy Wurzer) and the one who hosted the call-in show to discuss listeners’ reactions (Keri Miller) have been deluged with nasty, misogynistic responses, from both men and women, simply because they asked questions, because they treated these accusations with
