@xaronax: thanks for pointing that out, i was wondering if i was the only one who rooted just to install the stock carrier version. my reasons for rooting my EVO were to install the custom linux kernel that lifts the 30fps cap and adds a third touchpoint for my display as well as wireless tether and some other fun

Gray Powell worked (works?) on the baseband team as I recall. He also carried the phone around in a dummy 3GS shell, meaning he would never have noticed, in his real-world testing, that there was such an issue. @unaffected: apparently not, or i'm blind maybe? i know google has a "classic mode" on their mobile search page, but i definitely don't see a similar function on mobile.nytimes.com. i get redirected there on wifi and on 3G on my stock EVO. hmm.

@AreWeThereYeti: how do you get the full version of the NYT? i am on wifi on my evo trying to do this comparison, but all i can load is the mobile version. sure i could try another site, but now i am needing to know how to get past the mobile-only site thing. i tried unchecking the "enable mobile view" box in settings

As the Apple/Google animosity heats up I wonder if we'll see YouTube and Google Maps disappear from the iPhone?

@AreWeThereYeti: doubletwist just released (or updated) a player for android that is being received quite well.

i would advise against the menu bar thing. in my experience, when people complain of slow performance, there is often something running in the menu bar, a system-level hack that is hogging cpu. often it's stuff that the person doesn't even need or use.

just an FYI, i have ddwrt running on a v6 linksys wrt54g (the current model as of Aug '06. there are a couple extra steps for post version 5 units, but it was still pretty easy.
