It's important to remember that the guys at SRT, SVT, GM Performance, AMG, M, etc, have to take an existing platform and work with it. They don't get to redesign the platform from the ground up. Given what was dropped on their plate and what they did with it, the car is incredible.

Having driven a base 991, and a lightly "tuned" 997 Carrera S (sport springs, exhaust, intake, chip) I can say that while the 991 will make everything seem easier and will inspire confidence, the 997 will likely be sharper, and a better track tool.
Full agreement here from someone who appreciates honest cars and has three kids. I'm rocking a plush Chrysler T&C on a cheap lease until my youngest has graduated from baby seats.
