There’s a really creepy, leering dynamic between the Commander and Offred in the book because of his age, and the age difference between the wives and the handmaids definitely heightens the resentment and the creepiness of handing babies over to these elderly women.

I’ve never understood the compulsion to lie about being sexually assaulted, especially when it involves such elaborate set-up work as it does here.

Yeah, I see John Lithgow as the Commander way more than I see someone as young and pretty as Joseph Fiennes. I feel like Fiennes would have been better suited to the role of Nick or Luke.

There’s just so much focus on how much Serena Joy has aged when Offred is there compared to her heyday as a televangelist some decades back. Offred is in her early 30s.
