Perhaps - but I think that in the grand scheme of things this is probably a net positive for the industry. For better or for worse, it is getting too hard to exist for a long time as a small, independent studio. You need to be aligned with a large group of some kind - if you aren’t, you are either one bad game away

I mean I love making money as much as the next personified deity but we’re talking like getting lucky for folks paying me a quarter at best. There’s just no inherent value to the time spent here, no concrete product. 

Hey, Reg? Buddy? You do know that - if you really wanted to - you could already design and program such a feature into video games without relying on “the blockchain” in any regard whatsoever? Right? Like... Steam does it all the time?

Further, the value of those accounts is MUCH less as some sort of tangible, transferrable asset and much more as “I’m saving time/energy/frustration from having to do this myself.” Plus these virtual item economies tank quickly after hype winds down over a release, with few rare exceptions.

Imagine the worldview necessary to believe your leisure time requires “monetization” to be of value.

where can you return an opened game for a full refund? last I checked every big box retailer expressly forbids returning opened media.

The problem is that demos are a lose - lose for developers. People excited for the game were going to buy it anyways so the only way a demo changes their opinion is they decide NOT to buy it after playing the demo. And people excited for the game are the also the main group willing to download and try the demo since
