Besides the totally different dynamics of the police themselves, their “unions” aren’t fundamentally labor organizations at heart. Their primary purpose is not to advocate for more vacation time or higher wages; they’re almost entirely devoted to avoiding police accountability.
No other public worker groups have even remotely comparable dynamics to those of the police, though.
Police unions are a completely different kind of organization from all other unions, though. To the point where we should probably have a different word for police “unions.” So no, this is absolutely not what happens when “unions become too powerful.”
