Not a “prank.” Murder. You don’t call SWAT on someone unless you intend for someone to die.
Valerian was gorgeous to look at, but HOLY CRAP were those two of the clunkiest, most awkward leads in a movie ever. They had zero chemistry and I didn’t care about either of them.
All original noises. You think sound designers are going to skip an opportunity to watch tortoises take the express train to the bone zone?
“Go-ing to Burning Man, Burning Man - Burning Man!”
He’s a golem made of mayonnaise.
I thought it was contractual that Jayne Goldman came and fixed it and made his dross watchable ;-) . YOu know they really should just let her script more films !
And sodomy. Scottish comic book writers LOVE their sodomy.
Its in Matthew Vaughn’s rider too.
I get my dopamine hits from Gizmodo, i09 and Lifehacker.
I can’t help myself, man! I know Trek (for instance) has gone from thoughtful morality plays on the small screen to bigger, character driven adventure stories in the movies, and devolved into ever goofier spectacles over time, but I keep showing up!
but if any genre of film should be able to get away with being complicated and intellectual, it’s science fiction
Some of Alan Moore’s work is to comic books what some post-modern novels* are to written prose. Unraveling and playing with the conventions of the medium itself. If they were to be adapted, they’d probably be so different it wouldn’t be the same story, not that that’s a bad thing. They could still subvert conventions,…
And there are some comic books that use the history of comic books itself and the tropes associated with the medium as plot points (A lot of Alan Moore’s work. Especially his run on Supreme and Miracleman). So stories like that really wouldn’t work as adaptations since a lot of people wouldn’t understand the context…
We already have a shared-universe Victorian gothic series - it’s called “Penny Dreadful”. While it was forced to an unsatisfying, rushed conclusion with most character arcs sadly lacking, it’s already here.
Foreign direct investment into the US is down almost 50% compared to last year, tourism 6%. That’s a significant demonstration of a lack of trust among the business community and lost sympathies among ordinary people on a global scale as well - and it can be directly attributed to Donald Trump and the Republican…
Jeff Sessions basically said that Hawaii was not a real state a couple of months ago, when a Hawaiian judge blocked the travel ban. You bet they’d love to rescind Hawaiian statehood if they could, and there’s not a chance in hell Hawaii would be allowed into the union today.
When the conversation comes up, friends in other Western nations are pretty flabbergasted and disgusted, too. Money doesn’t seem to be an issue, both parties just voted for a huge increase of military spending, beyond what even the Pentagon was asking for and there’s a giant tax cut for billionaires and big businesses…
Which is the root cause of the issue: Taxation without representation. If that sounds familiar, it’s one of the reasons why the United States became a country.
