That’s true. In that case, you’d end up creating a story that’s more inspired by something instead of being an adaptation.

But if you’re willing to travel a bit more slowly, things get better at a literally exponential rate (even though they’re still pretty bad).

When you look at optimistic-but-not-crazy proposals for interstellar probes, you see proposed speeds of 1-10%c. At the low end of that range a grain of sand becomes a few pounds

The parent commenter suggests going “99.999%” of the speed of light in order to take advantage of time-dilation effects. At that speed, do you know what happens if you hit an obstacle the size of a grain of sand?

I was curious, so I did a little googling and found this handy “relativistic kinetic energy calculator”

Yeah, one of the problems with both Neuromancer and Snow Crash is they’re on the esoteric side that doesn’t translate well to film. Not to mention how influential they have been.

So old a post but oh well.

+ This. Couldn’t remember McQuarrie’s name but Stålenhag’s art could easily be mistaken for a more polished McQuarrie piece. All artists copy, it’s fine, everything is fine.

Generation Horizon Zero Totally Not Dawn is obviously very ‘inspired’ by The Terminator’s music, too.

An apology is “I’m sorry for all that horrible shit I said”. What he was doing was trying to duck out of responsibility with a “I’m sorry you were offended” non-apology.

If they’re creating a hash, why would they need to keep the photo at all?

I’m reading stuffs like “It’s not about... ...”

lol makes me think which doughy middle aged comic book character I could cosplay now.

Don’t forget “hey, that unauthorized between-shots non-lit photo from the set looks wrong!”

Someone above says Levi’s costume is worse than a dad and son cosplaying as Shazam, and also a really cheeseball painting by Alex Ross. These people are mad.

“It should be interesting to see how fans react”

Knowing how development takes place does put you in a position to be aware that the initial concept art and final product aren’t necessarily directly relatable.

People need to keep in mind that the game you’re imaging when you read these vague descriptions isn’t necessarily the game they would have made.

Right. You’re always going to have developers who wanna keep the wraps on things. And why wouldn’t they? There is several reasons to, not including pissing off toxic customers. It’s silly.

Physics?

Now playing

Did you ever see the 2005 version of The Quatermass Experiment? It was broadcast live, but they kind of cheat on the ending. Marigold gloves don’t cut it anymore.

Oh, thanks for reminding me of the American Red Dwarf... I had successfully put that out of my memory, but you just made me throw-up in mouth, a little bit. I think any attempt to remake the Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy would not turn out well, either (the movie wasn’t awful, but wasn’t as good as the original
