There need to be serious repercussions for turning off the cameras - the union can’t defend them, or some other means of losing police privilege, for instance. They’d be making darn sure the cameras were on in that case.

Really we should be surprised if they didn’t do this.

“white power and a bunch of just raging ignorance”

They’ll get to the truth of how Jon Lester fixed the debates!

They already did. When the coroner won’t even admit the obvious - that it’s homicide, not suicide - the process stops there, and there’s no chance of prosecutions of those responsible. And when the whole system is that complicit, it probably happens on a regular basis, too.

For the police to get away with it, there has to be a whole legal system in place that doesn’t challenge police narratives, no matter what. In the case of Louisiana, at least, it’s because the whole legal system was shaped to be means of enforcing racial oppression. “Justice” systems are also frequently shaped around

What’s really disturbing to me is that level of incompetence in setting up the suspect may still be good enough to get away with it in much of the country. Like the New Orleans case* where a guy was shot and killed in police custody and it was declared a suicide. Despite the fact that, at the time, he was handcuffed

Yeah, that is trickier to manage (you have to fire the gun near the suspect’s hand in the vague direction of where you were, if you want it to be convincing), though I think the real difficulty would be to pull it off when the suspect is still alive, as in this case. But it depends on the police force and how much

Yeah, if the cops planting a gun are smart they’ll make sure it has their victim’s fingerprints and DNA on it. Otherwise, this might happen:

Hey, come on - it’s not like the cops in Saint Louis have ever shot a black guy then planted a gun on him to... oh, whoops!

I think it’s more accurate to say, “How can I support that when the head of Oculus funds white supremacist hate groups.” Which is worse, actually, because it’s not just about deporting people.

Yeah - it’s basically a reactionary response to change that’s always existed in games, but these people didn’t notice when they were younger because they only played a certain type of game, I suspect. They’re seeing the diversity of games as an existential threat to “their” type of game, not realizing that diversity

First of all, Trump has talked, at numerous points, about blocking all immigration and has at least alluded to deporting people who are actually natural-born citizens. Not to mention his lumping together all Mexican immigrants as rapists and murderers (not distinguishing at all between legal and illegal immigration).

Lately I’ve been thinking that perhaps we could replace them all with refugees. It’s a win/win. Trump supporters get sent off somewhere terrible where they might learn some empathy, and we get to replace them with a group of people far, far more likely to be educated and sane.

The fact that anyone can support this guy, the fact that people act as if there’s some equivalence between him and Hillary - it’s like someone at the grocery store trying to decide what vegetables to buy where, on one side are some nice red, vine-ripened, flawless tomatoes and on the other side is a pumpkin so rotten

I read a poll where about a quarter of Trump supporters think he’ll start a nuclear war. Nuclear war. They’re still voting for him. Trump is the leader of a political suicide cult.

Why do you think he’s such a fan? Small businesses are so much easier to screw over.

“So every time he said that I looked it up and he was wrong.”

Emotionally, ethically, developmentally...
