I run 255/50-17s up front and 275/50-17s on the rear of my 1979 Olds Delta 88 Royale Brougham; I’ve lost an inch of sidewall up front and a few millimeters out back. That gives me plenty of control and plenty of sidewall - not as comfortable as the stock 215/75-15s, but then stock didn’t have a full coilover
