One correction: Kyven Gadson beat Kyle Snyder in the NCAA finals at 197 pounds. Snyder moved to HWT the next year.

Helen Maroulis was not only the first American gold medalist in women’s wrestling, she beat a 3x Olympic gold medalist and 13 time world champion to do it (Saori Yoshida, JPN). Kaori Icho (JPN) became the first wrestler ever (man or woman) to win 4 Olympic golds, also becoming the first woman to win an individual

LongbowMkll is correct, but its a warning, not a caution (in official parlance an Attention). A caution is an official penalty call. 3 of those and you are DQd. This call is only to be made after an Attention. No Attention was given, thus bad call. Kyle Snyder was given an Attention for fleeing in his gold medal

Not true. Wrestling’s governing body, UWW, directed that this call, fleeing the hold, should only be made AFTER a warning was given. There was no warning, thus, this was an incorrect call. Also, the extra point was not a penalty on the coaches. They challenged the fleeing call and the call was upheld upon review. Any

No seeding. For the first time this year they separated returning world championship finalists into opposite sides of the bracket, but these two met in the semi-finals last year (which was blind draw with no seeding). Agreed it is dumb.

There was no takedown awarded to Geduev in the match. He got 1 point when Burroughs was put on the shotclock in the first and failed to score, 1 point for a step-out (which can actually be any body part going out first, though if both men are down on the mat it isn’t typically called) in the second and then another 1

Before this year, the entire bracket was blind draw so everyone was drawn in randomly. This year, for the first time, they put the world championship finalists on opposite sides of the bracket. Unfortunately, Burroughs and Geduev met in the world championships last year (which was blind draw, remember) in the
