I rented a FWD 4 cylinder Ecoboost Edge and did 1200 miles of highway driving. I only got 23.7. That thing sucked gas and got no where near the 29 they promise. Real world mileage makes the difference even bigger.

This is horrible. Americans are the worst. I wish I could live in Europe and have their car selection. CUVs and SUVs are ridiculous and worthless and way less efficient. I rented a FWD “ecoboost” 4 cylinder Edge in AZ and did mostly highway driving. Only got 23.7 mpg which is way less than the 29 mpg they promise. Way…
Why get the Alltrack? It’s unnecessary in the Bay Area. Just get the regular Golf Sportwagen with less weight and lower to the ground.
I am leasing a 2017 Jetta SE 5-speed. It was my first new VW purchase and maybe my last. Why would they not offer a manual on at least the mid-level? My SE has Blind Spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, heated leatherette seats, alloys, sunroof, Apple Car Play and the torquey 1.4T engine is sweet with the…
Getting rid of my 1987 Toyota Van DX 5-speed and buying a brand new Neon 2 door base coupe in 1995. I should have kept that van forever. It looked like this one, but was tan and had brown stripes on the side. Total badass.
My point wasn’t about gas guzzling sports cars. It was about smaller, nimble cars that handle great and get great gas mileage. I have a ‘17 Jetta with 1.4T and 184Lb of pretty low torque and it gets over 40 mpg on the highway. And my 12k per year 3 year lease is $160 with 10% PA tax with only $1000 down. I definitely…
Yes. You go to Europe and there are hardly any trucks and just a few SUVs. It’s completely unnecessary for most of the daily chores. My friend wants an SUV because “sometimes” she needs to haul a small piece of furniture home. Ridiculous.
I drove for Uber when it first came to town in 2014. It was great. And I made decent money giving the bar crowd rides from 9 pm - 3 am on the weekend nights. And then they kept cutting the rates. In a year and one half, they were down over 30% from where they began. And Lyft lowered theirs two and shrugged their…
My 2017 Jetta doesn’t either. First car I have had that doesn’t have them. I wonder if the US regulations have changed.
Two tone Camry’s are the best.
1978 Toyota Corona Wagon Luxury Edition 5-speed manual with wood grain sides. My dad rolled it driving home drunk one night and it sat in the middle of a dirt road all night upside down. We had it towed to the local repair shop and they pushed out the roof as good as they could, got a new windshield in (never fit…
Drive it Pittsburgh and we can see if it can outperform my 1999 Camry LE 2.2 4-cylinder with 133 hp and 210,000 miles. I doubt it.
Walk away. If they weren’t rusting away, maybe. If they were from Vegas, Arizona, Florida, maybe. But not from Dayton. Noooo way.
It it literally impossible to get that price because DC dealers subtract the freight that is on the sticker for the teaser price and then add it back in. Plus 300-700 in doc fees and the rest are military, college grad and partner rebates.
Good catch. Not sure why they have those numbers listed, Official numbers on the sticker are 28 mpg city and 40 hwy with the 5-speed. I just leased a ‘17 SE 5 speed and can verify 42 mpg going 70-75 mpg through the mountains of central PA on I-80. My first tank was 35 mpg with a mixture of city and highway.
You can get a “stripped” 2017 Jetta S, 5-speed in the DC area for under $14000 with a 1.4 turbo and 184lbs of torque. The engine is pretty sweet and the car is super sporty for the price. Also gets 40+ on the highway mileage. The following is the teaser price. If you call them and get an “everyone qualifies” price, it…
These prices include a lot of rebates you will not qualify for.
2014 Ford Focus SE Hatchback 5-speed. The poor man’s Mazda 3 hatchback. This is my “good” car right now. I paid $13,400 for mine new at the end of 2014, which was over $6000 off sticker. Used ones are now under $10,000 in some areas. Here is a nice one in red with the upgraded wheel and fog lamp package. Remember…
That’s funny. My friend has a 2005 Solara Convertible and I told him the Buick may be a good replacement for it even though it will be a bit smaller. His has 160,000 miles on the Solara and still runs great, so he may keep it a few more years.
