It seemed to me that she watched in awe and fascination the transformation of the laundry room (?) into the Darkroom and all the chemicals and tools whipped out and the speed and the confidence and the resolve and it was just looking so badass to her..

Can you come to my house please? we have pot :) still illegal for recreational purposes in NJ, but just wait until that fat f**k is gone

yeah I know what you mean :)
tbh, Ukrainian pronunciation is very different from Russian, that's why Russians always made fun of Ukrainians back in the soviet times and considered them lesser, peasants (equivalent of "redneck" here), because if one was Ukrainian and spoke Ukrainian at home (in school, at work only

Well said! these are exactly my thoughts too

I watched the game in my room on a tiny black and white TV. I don't remember much, I was in elementary school then, I don't remember the emotions I felt or the impact it had on me. I just know I watched it, and I guess I must have been upset…

    Thank you for saying Soviet,

Exactly. Not that this ritual being enjoyable/emotionally powerful thing for Elizabeth at the end of the scene would somehow make her to become religious in any way.
There is a big difference between "yes, we stare at each other teary-eyed and say silly things and make promises we might not keep, and exchange rings

I thought I left USSR, dammit

Russian (Slavic) accent is a bitch to lose. Irish, Welsh - not a fair comparison. Plus some people are better at it than others. I am pretty good now, and yet - I have an accent, but so not defined that many guessed I was either German or French. I hate when people call me Russian anyway so I will take French any time

Soviet national team - the USSR. sorry, it's my pet peeve - those damn russians cannot take credit for everything! they used and exploited all of the nations they basically forced to join with them into the USSR, and now everything is called russian.

IIRC, the orthodox is more than an hour, and the church was packed, and it was very hot and no A/C (it's in the US but it is this made of wood old church up in the Catskills, so no A/C) - that was a challenge. My daughter was a maid of honor and she fainted twice.

I guess they did shorten it considering the venue and all :)

She should have practiced more to soften that "T" sound. Please, show, don't make her "speak" Russian again. Really jarring and reminding how fake it all is. Don't wanna hear it again.

Exactly. It's all about the right hand, They simply cannot wear their new (real) wedding rings because they must be worn on their right hands.

It could very realistically betray them. In Orthodox tradition, one wears his/hers wedding band on their RIGHT hand. so there

Yes, the Orthodox way is on the right hand. I never could get used to it, felt strange… I mean when I married an American and wore my wedding ring on my left hand…
