Side note: Black Widow may be just a boring human, but marvel has shown that they can get behind a story with just a human (ahem Daredevil). If anything, a Black Widow movie could be a spy thriller on steroids. And people will see that. They keep seeing those Bond films- so why not a black widow movie?

I think it comes down to stuff like “The Wall” though. When a Chinese produced and directed movie casts Matt Damon, what more can you do? We need non-white people to be willing to produce and direct movies about themselves just as much as we need white people to not dominate the industry.

Which is a shame. Scar Jo is absolutely epic as Black Widow. I’m grateful they give her so much airtime.

If I remember correctly, the race issue was brought up in an interview with the director (or producer. I forget). His response was something like “my friends are huge ghost in the shell fans, and they don’t see a problem with casting.” Ugh

After the Overwatch article about disabled gamers having too much of an “advantage” in-game the other day, I have to agree.

Hey, I’m a kotaku mouth breather and I’ve been co-mingling decently on Jez. We’re not ALL bad. :P

I mean, I wish more people would pose these questions (why didn’t you cast a person of the race the original character is) to the producers/directors. Of course it’s good to have the conversation and get the point out there, but it’s not really up to the actors. Obviously, SJ could have turned down the project, and

And even if there wasn’t, making what could potentially be a huge years-long commitment is a very different beast. I’m reminded of the crazy rumours going around why Jennifer Ehle dropped out of Game of Thrones. She rebutted them with what strikes me as a perfectly sound reason — she’d given birth to her second child

I felt like they split the wrong book for Hunger Games. Two had a lot of interesting stuff that they could have expanded on with one being the tour and uprising in the different areas and one being the quarter quell, but that might be because the third book was the least enjoyable for me.

Remember when people told us Lindsay Graham was a reasonable Republican?? Think again:

This is why I refuse to slam fanfic, as there are some legit solid writers out there who could easily turn pro. Especially when they do awesome alternate universe fic like this. It sounds similar to amazing Game of Thrones fic I’ve turned to since the book will likely never be finished and where the fanfic absolutely

And let’s be real here. She is too good for a TV movie or a CW series. I find her irritating and am unimpressed by her acting, but her filmography makes it pretty clear she’s getting better offers.

I don’t think she thinks she’s too good for TV. She’s done it before. She’s also granola AF and seems very low key and not snobby. I think she saw an opportunity to get out of a project that was, let’s face it, guaranteed to be terrible and was something she didn’t want to be a part of (and probably didn’t have time

Would be nice if the article mentioned that instead of snide remarks that she thinks she’s too good for TV.

Someone wrote a completely different third book and posted it online to a fanfic forum. I would normally never go to a fanfic forum but it was recommended in a ton of Amazon reviews for Allegient.

I don’t think it’s like that. She started on TV and has the HBO miniseries premiering soon.

Depends on the network, I think. HBO, yes. The CW, no.

Why is this article trying to imply she’s a bitch for turning them down? I wouldn’t want to make a long term commitment when I signed on for a much shorter one either.

Both of those movies:
