The appeal comes from the progression. You start with nothing and build your way up to having badass weapons and armor and majestic castles and stuff.

part of it I think is that a lot of games use the tedium for contrast to make the action more exciting when it happens. mining is tedious and boring but then suddenly you break open a wall and there is a massive opening on the other side with lava and water and things to explore. That contrast makes the big hits feel e…
I thought the movie was good but was never a big fan but I really enjoyed the animated version.
Way too many people, every time this happens: “I want more of that thing I loved before. But bigger and shinier and better. But DON’T CHANGE ANYTHING. But make it even more awesome. But make it just the same. But: WAY MORE OF IT. But, only what I remember exactly as I remember it, right now. But how dare you have any…
out of curiosity have you read the scott pilgrim comics? They tended to jump around a lot more in terms of perspective and centered ramona a lot more.
As a white male, something 90% of culture used to be aimed square at us. So now that its like down to approximately 75%, I get that it feels like a huge drop off. But to whine and moan about the awful “enormity” of how inclusive media properties are nowadays is just about the most pathetic thing I’ve ever heard.
(Also,…
It’s definitely something you could have written around. “The Disappearance of Scott Pilgrim” could have been an alternate take. “Ramona Flowers vs the World” would have worked wonders because Ramona Flowers is already a more popular character than Scott.
My thinking is, it does not stand on its own, and as the only animated media we have, that sits alone on a streaming service, it should.
The thing is that you “angry white guys” also react this way to comics that had “strong female characters” and “LGBT stories” from the beginning. Like Scott Pilgrim. Which first came out in 2004.
The 2010 movie came out too soon to include one LGBT storyline, and minimized the other because of time constraints. That’s…
The anime was about Scott Pilgrim. He just wasn’t the main character.
I remember when a friend in highschool first recommended Scott Pilgrim with me with the caveat that the characters and story was ‘kind of shallow.’ And while enjoyable, her assessment ultimately proved true, it was pretty shallow. That’s why I was so delighted that the anime zagged instead of zigged. I went from “Meh,…
To echo my sentiments from the review thread - I absolutely enjoyed the Netflix series and its changes, it fleshes out a bunch of characters that were only broadly sketched out in the original. I can sympathize with creators who want to shake things up and not rehash the same story over and over.
I couldn't get into Futurama because John Futurama never showed up *once*.
The original series was about a guy fighting his girlfriends seven evil ex boyfriends who were all given the personalities of pop culture archetypes in video gamesesque battles.
People incapable of character growth hate character growth.
It’s been a long time since I’ve gone into a Gamestop. I’ve never seen a “free bin” or a penny game bin and now I feel like I’m missing out.
A penny by you? My local store had it in a box of free stuff
The only time I was able to take advantage of a “penny out” was when they put a Fortnite Llama Tree Topper up for $0.01. I had to drive an hour away to pick it up, but I thought it was just hilarious to do so. Yes the drive there ended up costing more than a penny, obviously, but it was a fun story and a great…
Hot take: Anthem is worth three *thousand* pennies. I got 40 hours of solid entertainment out of it before I put it down (I want to say it took me 20 hours to finish the campaign?). Obviously it’s terrible as a live service game, but if you go in looking to just to the campaign and maybe mess around with some of the…
All I’m hearing is “practically free PS4 cases” with a bit of trash inside to throw out. Time to give some of the titles on my shelf that I acquired as used the upgrade they deserve.
