The sidewalk is, in many cases, more dangerous than the road, because of driveways. Motorists entering and exiting parking lots often don't look at the sidewalks before rolling right out to the line of the street.
They are not a priority. It's a given that the parents would save their children from a burning building. It's a given that sometimes parents sleep cramped in a toddler bed so said toddler can go to sleep. It's a given that a parent will sacrifice whatever for themselves and pay for whatever activities the kid wants.*

I noticed this a couple of years ago when I was working in the checkout line. People (women mostly) would drag out the 's' in Thanks. So it was "Thankssssss...."
My depression hit me when I was in college. I ended up gaining about 45lbs and dropped/almost flunked out of college. Mainly because I was too ashamed/guilty/embarrassed. When I finally did get help, it took me about a year to turn things around. But now I am SO glad I did. I can't imagine being in that funk anymore.…

When I was five, I was running around barefoot at the ballpark my parents were helping to build. Yes. Barefoot. Construction. Go! But I saw a rusty nail and, I swear to God, thought to myself "Step on it!!"
You have probably been told this before, but a lot of labor is about letting go which can also transfer over to parenting. And it's really freakin' hard for us Type A personalities to do that.
