If you dig up the twitter thread about this, someone asks her if she thinks it’s a good thing that parents have to start gofundme’s tpo pay for their childrens’ cancer treatments. She responds that it’s a bitter person who doesn’t see something wonderful in community coming together to support each other.

I haven’t heard her promise a single free thing...? I’ve heard her speak about how she would like to do these things, and how there are ways to get these things done, and how broad support will be necessary to get the ball rolling, but I have never heard her promise these things to anyone. Rugged individualism is hot garbage invented by rich, straight, white men to provide an origin myth for their power and success so that they don’t have to be faced with the truth that they arrived where they are by standing on the necks of people of color and women.

Eh, maybe he is an asshole but at least he cops to it and appears to trying to be a better person. I’ll take that over all the assholes who double down out of spite when they get called on it. 

Or worse, explain why the country investing in the education of children is not as important as tax cuts for corporations.

I hate the myth of rugged individualism because it makes people selfish and think people who are struggling are not trying hard enough. Not everyone has the same access to resources. Some places are closed to people. Honestly, working hard does not always mean you’re going to become a “success.”

Good, make conservatives actually articulate why they believe people don’t deserve these things. Put them on the defensive for why “kids don’t deserve education” is good policy.

He could be economically anxious. Or part of America’s forgotten middle class. Maybe he’s a victim of the opiod crisis. Or involuntarily celibate. But really I’m sure he was polite to his neighbors and a fan of country music.

We really don’t. It might be random. Apparently they found no history of any racially motivated crimes or connections when they checked up on this dude.
