My main camera for night shots is an old NEX-7... I got VERY used to not having a remote lol (the only thing the 7 has is an IR port for remote, no external shutter release cable, or USB access, giant pain in the ass)

Remote is useful for sure, but setting a time delay is usually enough for a beginner. 

Not to nitpick, love all of the tips... but

The one Cooler Master sent me a few years back was fine at first but eventually became annoyingly loud, and if I turned it down it wouldn’t keep the CPU cool.

It’s also kind of weird that he called him “General Sessions.”
