I would argue the 2-3 year old car is more reliable than new, especially when CPO. This is due to the bathtub curve of reliability. As you pointed out, all cars may have manufacturing defects (some significant). After 2-3 years, all that will be left are the good/repaired cars, and the only thing left to worr about

The same reason we add cheese to everything.
More better.

I’m in a similar boat. Income just a tick over 300k, and was all over used. Then, I bought a grand Cherokee new in 2014. And I’ll drive it probably another dozen years until I give it to my currently 6 year old. Sure, paid a little bit more than a used one when I got it, but I also bought a lifetime unlimited mileage

didn’t think it was that bad either, and considering american audiences do not know these men, seems fitting for us at least.

That is probably the single most entertaining thing to ever happen in that stadium since the superbowl in 09

Exactly this. The people I often see buying new vehicles are those that are getting their first big paycheck (or older docs that want to custom order their 911). No one NEEDS a new car, save a good chunk of change and settle on that 2-3 year old model.

*Rich people and the financially illiterate.

I can’t imagine when buying a new car makes sense. My family take home is >200k and I wouldn’t even consider getting a new car.

I’d argue that just because you can afford to buy a new car, doesn’t mean you should.

Back in my day we had a better class of rich person, either driving a magnificent luxury sedan or a sports car like a 911. Now we have people spending 80k on a Tahoe that drives like a fancy U-Haul and that has such poor forward viability that every child or rock within a 10-foot radius is in imminent danger.

So, you’re good with the IRS taking more money out of your paycheck?! Every part of the federal budget “needs”/”deserves” more funding. If you want a European level of government “services” you need to be willing to European-level taxes, as well!

Because heaps of people in Seppostan hate the first word of the Constitution and resent it.

This is the capital of the country why can’t the federal government fully fund shit tons of the best busses in the world. why is this even a question?

I’m the guy who had the Outback! I submitted my info almost a year ago so you can all hear about how this ended!

I’m the guy who had the Outback. I suspect the issue was either deeper than the CVTs they replaced or with the reman units themselves.  They were all replaced during the great shortage shit show of 2020 - 2022. The last two started going out within one hundred miles. I also wont rule out installation error.

then clearly the problem is somewhere else, perhaps the ECU programming.”

Not just criminals, equal opportunity criminals

The genius of the Prius is still not quite appreciated. Not only for things like this, but for just how bulletproof they are. It’s even more impressive when you think of how new hybrid technology was when it came out. It’s about the cheapest non-EV you could possibly own - I know I miss my ‘04 terribly.

Thank you. The unnecessary stereotyping of CVTs as inferior needs to stop. If I’m not buying a car with a manual transmission, I couldn’t care less how the automatic is configured.

An AWD Hybrid Lifted Sienna please: https://www.journeysoffroad.com/2021-4th-gen-sienna-lift-kits.html

PS CVTs are not the issue. Your Outback’s CVTs are the issue. Most Hybrids are CVTs and we’ve had a Lexus RX450h go 250k miles without any issues.

Here’s how I do it. It’s never failed.
