There's a version of "The Crave" from 1938 on The Complete Library of Congress Recordings, which is still one of my favourite box sets.

Janelle Monáe deserves at least *some* of the awards.

I've been hearing about that more and more.

(Well, I have seen a lot more than 72 of them, but I have only logged 72 on Letterboxd)

It's in the top third!

4.1 Miles (#3) is streaming here.

*looks up betting odds on Viggo Mortensen*

Do you think it's at all possible that Casey Affleck *and* Denzel Washington won't win?

I'd pick Isabelle Huppert, but more in hope than expectation.

I just meant that individual Academy members probably vote the way others have done (in some cases, if they aren't familiar with all the nominees, etc).

Is that how the Academy works too? Probably?

I was just looking to see when Django Reinhardt made his first recordings (1928) and trying to work out if any of those recordings would make the cut on a hypothetical list of mine. I've heard most of the songs you mentioned, with two exceptions: "Crucifixion" and "Gastonia Gallop". I will listen to them now.

Again, I find myself in agreement.

Yeah, maybe so. At least Naomie Harris received a nomination.

And I agree with that. And I agree with the people who don't understand why so many seem to think the last third of the film is comparatively weak. It isn't.

I agree that he should be getting more recognition.
