It's interesting that at least 7 of the 8 people agree on the outcome in 21 of the 25 categories. One notable exception being Best Actor, which is split between 4 votes for Casey Affleck and 4 votes for Denzel Washington.

Mahershala Ali's performance in Moonlight is great, but it's one of half a dozen great performances in that film. It is weird that he has gotten nearly all of the attention. If he wins, I'm sure he will say that it's a win for the entire ensemble, as he did at the SAG Awards.

Well, that's true, but it's not certain (to me, at least) that the Original Dixieland Jass Band actually composed that tune.

What are your favourite jazz recordings from before, say, 1930?*

Also, Nick LaRocca claimed that white people invented jazz, so it's hard to listen to his music or take him seriously.

There was a screening today of Asghar Farhadi's The Salesman in London's Trafalgar Square. I think it will win the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.
