It's funny, since the film really got attacked from both sides on this in Japan. Japanese Nationalists felt like the film is to pacifistic and denigrates the Japanese war effort, while pacifists and those opposed to Japan's wartime atrocities saw it as too forgiving.

I'm definitely gonna at least stream the soundtrack, even if I skip the movie. The idea of a mainstream Philip Glass film score is just too enticing to ignore.

Yep. There is voice acting/narration (often by one person) and some pans across panels while expressions change and objects move (usually very choppy/stilted animation). They seem like an interesting form that's completely dependent on having a good writer/artist who knows how to use it. The X-Men '92 Secret Wars tie-in has been great, and I think the pacing benefits from the whole nested-panel thing.
