After reading some comments and thinking abut it…tho I don't endorse this, this book actually seems perfect for Zach Snyder. All violence and flash and mise en scene with no substantial/rigid narrative requirements to weigh him down.

To be fair, it seems to me like Hard Boiled is pretty aware of all the cliches and similar material it's drawing from. It's just a hyper-violent grenre riff with no real substance, and it's saved from being monotonous by the Darrow artwork which is just balls-out incredible.
