I’ve got some comic reviews to get on top of (four of them!!!!) so what better way to pass the time than to start an open thread on GT? (Shameless plug: sequentialist.com)
...and still have a bunch of work to do tonight (it’s about 6pm where I am). Talk to me about anything!
Hello everyone! I made it to Myanmar, and have been here for almost three mostly wonderful weeks. The food is delicious, all the people I’ve met are pretty darn great, and the country is beautiful. The downsides are minor: mosquitoes and heat. And maybe just a tad too much fish in the food for someone who’s not a fan…
...in Alberta then I’m off to Myanmar for a year! I am super-stressed and calm at the same time. Maybe I’m calm because it still doesn’t quite seem real. I know I’m stressed because I still have a ton to do and I’m worried I’ll forget something. Anywho, what are you fine folks thinking about on this lovely evening?
...to go to Myanmar! Thank you very, very much to everyone who weighed in. It was so helpful to see which option people would choose, not the least because my reaction to each comment gave me clues about what I really wanted to do. I felt myself getting very defensive over the Myanmar position, and I realized that I…
Today I officially received offers from two very different jobs. One is a volunteer position teaching English for a year in Myanmar (Burma) and the other is a position with a university that sounds amazing and comes with a 46% raise over what I make now (which isn’t all that much). I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO.
Hi everyone! I just finished day two of a five-day training session, and I am exhausted. I was hoping to do some writing or work on my blog, but my brain is just foggy, so I thought I’d host an open thread instead! Later on (or soon) I’ll go out and get some junk food to accompany my beer and cold pizza.
In the continuing saga of ofermodig’s endless interests that often go nowhere (see: writing group; blog; jewellery business), I’m thinking of doing an MBA. In my current position, I’ve become a lot more interested in the project management/numbers/plain old business side of things, and I believe an MBA would not only…
Well. The week went pretty well, and I sleep so good when I don’t have even one beer at night.
Oh man. I wrote some words yesterday at work, during break—we do word wars—so I’m not feeling too bad about the writing. But I’d like to work out some sort of system for supporting each other with writing here, and I haven’t done that yet. So in the meantime: How did everyone’s writing go this week? What are you all…
One of my shiny, sparkly New Year’s Resolutions is to write more (mainly my blog, which should help with career stuff in addition to being fun, but also horror fiction, which I love but am scared to fail at). So I thought perhaps we could revive and invigorate the writing support group that was going on around here a…
Next summer I’m going to Iceland with the folks for two weeks! I’ve just started doing some research, and I’m a bit overwhelmed by everything there is to see, so I’m tapping the GT hivemind for must-sees and advice. Have you any of you visited Iceland? Do any of you live there?
I’m a little sad to be leaving with so much still unseen—the Highline walk, MoMA, more of the Met, the Guggenheim, more galleries in Bushwick, Hamilton—I am looking forward to being back in the wide open spaces of Alberta with a dog to keep me warm at night.
I still love it!
Yesterday: American Museum of Natural History.
I was just going to get some buttons and mini-comics for my co-workers today, but ended up buying some more stuff. Much smaller haul than yesterday though, and I love everything! That pile of things on the bottom right of the picture are all the cards I picked up from people that I didn’t buy from. I might have to…
SPX Update: The word on Twitter is that every Ignatz Award winner this year was a woman!
Bethesda, Maryland, to be exact. I’m here for the Small Press Expo (indie comics! so many indie comics!!) and then I’m heading to New York for ten days.
I know that someone posted a while ago about a writing support group, and I meant to send a message to join but never got around to it.
Edit: It’s my bedtime now, but I’ll be checking back tomorrow and responding! So many good suggestions so far!
