This. I keep thinking about leaving but I don't have another creative position to leave for since all my experience has been wrapped around my current job. There are other creative skills I have but those skills won't immediately or reliably net me an income like the one I have now.

You have no idea of the politics involved. If you already know the audience considers you a "lowly crew member" including the people who hired you, of course you're going to be gracious to the big names you know in hopes of bending their ear to the important info you have for them.

To address why shouldn't she—-I don't think Zimp is saying age difference should matter on an individual scale, person-by-person basis. This is more of a beef with media. It has to do with the hypersexualization of young women. In media and in Hollywood, we are often exposed to instances of mature or older men hooking

Leave the pole dancing out of it.

LULZ no it isn't but I read that one too. :D

I think the idea you're proffering that being cranky or negative at people all the time means you're a more intelligent person is utter bullshit and I don't think anyone was questioning your intelligence just because you have a vagina and are not cheerful (though I understand being defensive about that) so your

"Not that a woman changes that fundamentally by doing porn - in the real world, she probably does porn on the side while she writes the next great sci-fi novel"

You're joking about Wheaton and Whedon right? If we're really serious about a good seminar why not have it led by female sci-fi/fantasy writers?

It is only sexist and potentially misogynistic because the subject is a woman. It would merely be shallow and self-centered if one approached all people in this objectifying way. The thing is, this way of thinking is so prevalent around women in particular. So much so that you don't even see the problem with it.

I don't think a relationship with a book could in fairness be called complex. One may have nuanced feelings about the book, but any way one would relate to it would be entirely one-sided, thus not very complex at all. Actually, it would be very simple in contrast to a relationship with a human being.
