You're right. Spoiler alerts aren't needed on such old films. And the scene you mentioned is just one instance in the film of at least two where Gable must of fatally over-taxed himself. One really has to see it to appreciate it. You forgot to mention the point when he wrestled a horse to the ground. As I watched it,

The fact that he didn't use a double amazes me. He was definitely old-school. As I watched that scene in the movie and saw the obvious physical toll it took on him in front of the camera…. unforgettable. Thanks for confirming what I suspected.
