Me who complain that the #metoo movement or “woke” culture changed the rules are tacitly admitting that they’re misogynist, or racist; etc.
Honestly Joker is just a mediocre knock-off of King of Comedy with only the faintest connections to the comics that if this had been made by a different studio you’d swear it was trying to make a knock-off brand Joker movie.
Really glad he said this. I know some people that listen to him who probably need to hear it.

Harden’s just worried China will start pulling passports, which would be a huge bummer for him because he really likes to travel.
Fixed it:
We don’t claim him.
Tsai is Taiwanese in name only. He’s made his fortune off Alibaba, which is fully tied into the Chinese Communist Party.
But Harden and the rest of the NBA can’t even say they support the people of HK while also kissing Xi Jinping’s ass.
I’m sure the million ethnic Muslim Ugyhurs residing in the Xinjiang re-education camps will be happy to hear about the NBA’s commitment to Chinese fans as they assemble for their 5 a.m. re-education seminar. It will make their morning rice gruel taste so much sweeter.
If the film was Sad Clown, they wouldn’t have given it that budget, probably wouldn’t have gotten Phonix nor spend as much resources on marketing. Because of that, the expectations on the returns also have been smaller.
A risk how? Financially? I don’t think “small budget” or “most iconic Batman villain,” among other things, scream financial risk.
Indeed. Making a movie that features one of the most iconic characters in one of the most successful comic book franchises, but foregoing making it like a “comic book movie” in favor of making it....like a movie by one of the most successful directors in film history is indeed a very risky thing to do.
I didn’t say Batman vs. Superman and The Joker are “totes the same.” The framing it is relevant to is yours:
Those seem like odd notions of risk to me. Financially, a $55 million movie that piggybacks on the Batman franchise, featuring the second most iconic character in the movie, doesn’t seem like a particularly big risk to me.
Risky how? Whatever story you want to tell, using one of the most iconic characters from one of the most successful franchises seems like a pretty safe choice to me.
