No, but play the first one. Disgaea 1 is great, I think its still the best one. They are all great, just I think the put the most effort into the first. 4th was fantastic too. Looking forward to 5.

Most armor was actually pretty useless unless it was fullplate and that was kinda useless after long periods of time. So basically, wear what you like. The Japanese kimono was used by many in battle as well and that offered less protection than mage armor =p
