If this album doesn’t turn Monáe into a household name there’s no justice.

Chris Farley and John Belushi would like a word...

I’ve never slowly pieced together that the person I’m talking to is the real murderer.

I’m going to guess it was “Hey, you heard about these new corduroy pillows? They’re really making headlines.”

I think that is a perfectly acceptable answer. I think the section between Heimdalsgate and Faberge Falls for Shuggie is pretty much perfect. I just felt like I needed to center it around The Past is a Grotesque Animal. I just wish I had some way to work We Were Born the Mutants Again with Leafling into the mix.

My very first thought was Hissing Fauna! But for me the sequence is definitely Heimdalsgate like a Promethean Curse -> Grolandic Edit -> A Sentence of Sorts.

Great call on the Simon & Garfunkel

YUUUUUP. Gotta Include “Boy Problems” in the CRJ run.

I’m pretty underwhelmed by their newer stuff, but the Coquelicot through False Priest era is pretty bitchin imo

Holyshit, I forgot Of Montreal existed! Thanks!

The highest praise I can give E·MO·TION is that it has a rare deluxe album wherein the (three, coincidentally) bonus tracks kick as much ass as the regular jams.

I went the next one up and did Someone Great/All My Friends/Us V Them :) The whole album is amazing.

Nah, this list could have been exponentially more hipster. No mention of Funeral, Loveless or anything by The National.

I’m also gonna go ahead and add Lovegame/Paparazzi/Poker Face from The Fame by Lady Gaga to the list.

I’m partial to the Two Headed Boy -> The Fool -> Holland 1945 sequence. Three very different songs that somehow manage to be exactly the thing you want to hear next. The flow of that album is so well done.

So many valid answers...

I may not agree with all your takes here, but the trio of songs that kicks off In an Aeroplane is fucking magical.

Some choices

of Montreal, Skeletal Lamping: An Eluardian Instance/Gallery Piece/Women’s Studies Victim

of Montreal, Hissing Fauna Are You the Destroyer?: A Sentence of Sorts in Kongsvinger/The Past is a Grotesque Animal/Bunny Ain’t No Kind of Rider/Faberge Falls for Shuggie (choose 1-3 or 2-4)

Shabazz Palaces, Black Up:

Carly Rae Jepsen’s E· MO· TION: “Run Away With Me”, “Emotion”, “I Really Like You”.

North American Scum < Someone Great < All My Friends
