I’m likewise not going to claim the sky is falling; decent but flawed teams (like the U.S.) often lose to outstanding teams (like Argentina). Sometimes they make it interesting, but other times it is decisive.

Your takes are on fire! Who else would you have start? Were you aware the team was missing 3 starters for the game due to cards? Did you want to see Klinsmann to throw out Pulisic and Nagbe out there when they haven’t started all tournament? The USMNT won’t be losing any supporters, nor will they have any trouble…
I am here to reiterate my point that what we are talking about is a 40-year project of transforming the structure and culture of soccer in America. Those first touches and the pants-shitting panic that they represented were on full display last night.
You know, JK sees the young guys you want to start in practice every day.
Because basketball is easier to play at a high level than soccer and you need 5 good players. Not 11.
....international basketball DIDN’T catch up. We sent scrubs for a few years and then went back to sending the best. There is only ONE other team on the planet that has hope against the US in basketball—Spain. And they still do not have much. That is, in no way shape or form, “catching up.”
Other nations pluck promising 12-year-olds out of school and put them into soccer academies. I’m not even saying that’s a good thing, it seems like misplaced priorities. I’m just saying, how do you compete with that?
