Well, this is effectively the a la carte option everyone asked for. Because they lose mass distribution they have to effectively increase the selling price of their product in order to pay for programming and make a profit.

Discovery (and others) are having to go to this model because satellite & cable have lost millions of subscribers. If Discovery was charging $2/mo. for that suite of 5 channels and there are 20 million fewer subscribers in the sat/cable world, that approaches $500MM in lost revenue for Discovery in a year. HALF A
