I suspect some of these recommendations from Otis are more leaning towards maximizing operational time and minimizing downtime. Hold both rails centers you on the stairs and probably minimizes equipment wear. Same for using as stairs. Load on gears/pulleys, etc. Same for running, a stationary object on the stairs…
