I haven’t seen anyone arguing that the hackers should avoid charges. But I have seen a ton of people asking for sympathy for AM users. Why can’t they both enjoy the consequences of their actions? Hackers eventually go to jail, and these people get dumped by their SOs.

You’re totally right—instead of planning to alleviate racism with economic tools, Sanders should instead just plan to make every American sign a pledge stating “I won’t be racist.” That would be a much better solution.
