Let’s be real. If she was not a transwoman, she’d be left for her entire sentence, and very few people would care, government or no. But she became a figurehead of more than one social movement, so I guess her crimes are okay now?

Personal Anguish has never been a mitigating factor. Personal Anguish is explicitly the purpose of prison.

Can someone describe for me why Manning is getting a pardon? As best I can tell there is zero argument about if she was guilty of the crime or the severity of it, and it appears she was aware of the consequences and illegality before committing the act.

Make no mistake that she is getting special treatment because of her public profile. Her sentence was her sentence, and it’s arguably pretty classist and racist to let Chelsea’s sentence be commuted so early while drug offenders, people who committed nonviolent property crimes, people who committee crimes of passion,…

She IS a traitor, and DOES deserve to be in prison. Maybe not for 35 years, but for longer than what her commutation takes her to. The oath of enlistment, not to mention all the various things she had to do to even be trusted with access to that information mean that she’s isn’t a whistle blowing hero in this case,…

No she got the punishment she deserved in accordance of the UCMJ. Now I agree that her sentence was IMO unfairly long and most likely motivated by Snowden backlash. But to say she should have never been been subjected to punishment is absurd.

Why is this a good thing? I found her sentence to be quite reasonable. Pretty large leak deserves pretty large sentencing, transgender or not. Is the transgender thing the reason we’re being sympathetic? I am genuinely confused at this site’s support of her.

I don’t know if an asshole who leaked information and put many, many innocent service members in harms way is the person you want carrying your flag, here.
